T & G Structural Engineers have recently worked on refurbishing the old St Helier Odeon building, which is now the Freedom Centre. At the forefront of this project was creating an open space to allow the client to host an array of different event types while still being sympathetic to the historic fabric of the building. We provided scheme options and worked carefully with the client and architect to achieve the final layout – an adaptable space that can be used for all types of events, from Sunday church to gala evenings. Mindful of the historic nature of the building (and the cost of importing new materials), we designed our structure in such a way that we could incorporate and reuse existing structural elements already on site.
